Following yesterday’s incident where body guards of retired Major General Matayo Kyaligonza assaulted a female traffic officer in Seeta, along with a journalist who tried to capture the incident, Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has come out to condemn the incident.
In a statement issued by UJA’s secretary for information Mr Kabuye Viyeno, the body has called upon journalists like Peter Otai, from Uganda Broad Casting Cooperation (UBC) who was assaulted not to give up but continue exposing such inhuman acts to the rest of the world.
“UJA condemns the impunity of security officers who continuously violate human rights” reads part of the statement
From the same incident Sergeant Namaganda Esther a Traffic police officer who was assaulted and Peter Otai have already recorded statements at Police.
In the meantime, UJA promised to work hand in hand with Otai to ensure that the culprits are brought to boke
The UPDF last night through the army spokesperson confirmed that the body guards of Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza had been arrested pending investigations into the matter
