The king of Busoga Kingdom(Kyabazinga) William Gabula Nadiope IV has launched a new development agenda that will be followed in order to steer the kingdom and the region forward.
The launch took place on Saturday at the Civil Service College in Jinja City.
This new Busoga Development Agenda (BDA), is a sub-regional development framework which was proposed by the Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) outlining the necessary policy and programmatic interventions to drive the socio-economic and political prosperity of the sub-region.
It is structured into 10 pillars with a total of 25 interventions but 5 pillars were launched at the event that include; Commercialising Agriculture, Developing Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Education and skills, Development of Road and Water infrastructure and Sustaining the environment.
The other five pillars include; Industrialisation and Private sector development, Health improvement, Land and Mineral resources development, Urban and Human settlement and Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga for the return of ‘Ebyaiffe’.
Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi launched the Agenda on behalf of government.
In his speech, Ssekandi expressed apologies from President Yoweri Museveni who was supposed to preside over the launch as a recognition of this concerted effort but he was caught up with other national duties that could not allow him to attend.
The Vice President appreciated the Kyabazinga of Busoga for steering the efforts which started with embracing the Consortia initiative and subsequently the formation of BDA.
The ceremony was also graced by the Speaker of Parliament Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga, Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala and his deputies Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega and Osman Noor Ahmed.
The Speaker of Parliament Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga called for government’s intervention to support the Busoga Development Agenda in order to realize the socio-economic transformation in the Busoga sub-region.
His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV through Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala registered Busoga’s love to the President of the Republic of Uganda.
He appreciated President Museveni for his passion and effort in the fight against COVID-19.
Regarding pillar 10 in the agenda, Muvawala said ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga will in a weeks-time put a request to the government to implement it by returning properties of OBB.
Present at the function were; some MPs from Busoga sub-region, Kyabazinga Affairs Minister Owek. Babirye Yudaya and Issabalangira Samuel Menhya among others.
