Police on Thursday evening was called in to rescue a man who was trying to commit suicide at the Uganda Golf Club, lower Kololo.
The man, still unidentified by press time, shocked golf players when he climbed up a tree and threatened to end his life if government didn’t come to his financial rescue.
Holding a machete in his hand and a jerry can of petrol in the other, he shouted in the tree branches that he was going set himself alight.
Witnesses say, he demanded that government helps him start up a small business or he would commit suicide.
Police rushed to the scene and used water to get him down.
Kampala Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said in the process, the man sustained injuries and was rushed to Mulago hospital for treatment.
“I am still trying to reach our officers there. At the moment we don’t know his names. But he did injure himself and was taken to Mulago for treatment,” Onyango told us.
