The Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. JeJe Odongo is expected to brief Parliament on the killing of an 11 year old pupil in Kole district allegedly by two Indians.
Kole Woman Member of Parliament, Judith Alyek on Tuesday raised the matter, which has created tension in Lango, on the floor of Parliament.
Alyek demanded that the Internal Affairs Minister should formally inform the country on the circumstances surrounding the brutal demise of Dick Okello on Friday last week.
“Madam Speaker, there is a big problem in Lango and particularly in my district of Kole. A pupil of 11 years was killed last Friday and two Indians are currently in detention but no official statement from government has been made,” said Alyek.
The Speaker directed the Executive to respond to the matter but the Ministers were not ready with a statement.
It was decided that a comprehensive statement be made on Tuesday next week.
Indian shops remained closed in the town of Lira and Asians are not seen on the streets as tension remains high and fear of revenge on the Indians.
The Lango Parliamentary Group Chairman, Felix Okot Ogong appealed for calm as police continues with the investigations on the matter. According to Okot, rushing to conclude on the matter will not help but jeopardize investigations.
The body of the late was brought to Kampala for a second postmortem on Monday after the contestation of the one done in Lira.
The postmortem reportedly found out that there were signs of strangulation resulting to the breaking of the neck and internal bleeding.
