KITGUM: Grief as Nurse Drowns while Crossing River, Body Still Missing

The medical fraternity in Kitgum District is in mourning after a nurse drowned while crossing the Pager River in Kitgum municipality.

The deceased is Robert Akiki, an enrolled nurse at St Joseph Hospital, Kitgum. The 24-year-old hails from Kyenjojo district.

According to David Livingstone Obita, the LC1 chairperson for Latiti cell in Pager Division Kitgum municipality, the deceased together with his unidentified friends, were from their garden going back home at the time of the incident.

Dr. Pamela Atim, the medical superintendent at St Joseph hospital Kitgum, said the deceased was a former graduate from the hospital’s teaching school and has been working in the hospital in the surgical department.

She noted that the body is yet to be found as the police and the local divers tried in vain to get his body from under the water.

Mr. Tommy Eyaku, the Kitgum District Police Commander, confirmed the incident saying police have been dispersed to the scene and efforts to recover the body are underway by both the police and the local divers.
