Kisoro Students Beat Suspected Thief to Death

Two students and a security guard at St Peters Vocational Senior Secondary School in Kisoro District have been arrested over the death of a 19 years old man.

The trio is being accused of masterminding the beating to death of one Emmanuel Mfitumukiza, whom they thought had broken into the school to steal.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman says Mfitumukiza was found inside the school premises on Saturday night and was accosted and killed by the students.

Maate said the deceased was later identified to be a mason from a nearby village, who was working at a health center that shares a perimeter wall with the school.

The school headteacher, George Zirihanye says the school had been hit by cases of vandalism from intruders who stole students’ property and when the students landed on Mfitemukiza who was suspected of being one of the thieves, they did not spare his life.

“There has been a wave of cases of bulgarly and theft in the Vocational school and nearby hospital and the students suspected the deceased to be one one them, but they did wrong to lynch him” Maate said.

Maate said  Police have arrested the School guard and two students to help us in investigations, and warned that more arrests will be carried out, so that all those participated in the beatings that resulted into the death of the deceased are punished accordingly.
