Abel Ainomugisha, a student at Kisoro Technical Institute in Nyakabande Sub County in Kisoro district, yesterday died of excessive drinking.
The incident happened as the Institute hosted a one day Christian conference that attracted participating schools from across the district.
While most of the students were engaging in the spiritual program, a group of second year Agriculture students decided to escape and go to Chappa Trading Center for a binge.
These are said to have gotten money after selling a bag of Irish potatoes from the school’s agriculture project.
After hours of drinking, Ainomugisha and his colleagues returned to their hostel, where he is said to have developed complications and was rushed to Mutolere Hospital where he died on arrival.
Innocent Amanya, the Deputy Principal at Kisoro Technical Institute says the group of students who escaped, feared to report what had happened immediately.
He termed the incident as very unfortunate.
