Kisoro Priest Admitted After Surviving Kidnap

The Giharo Church of Uganda parish priest in Muhabura Diocese has been admitted at Kisoro hospital in serious condition after he was rescued by a Good Samaritan on Saturday morning following an alleged kidnap by unknown assailants on Friday.

Reverend Robert Mfitundina, 41, told our reporter on the hospital bed that he was kidnapped while coming from Cyanika border town around 4:30 Pm on Friday.

He says a car suddenly pulled up behind him and the passengers told him to get in.

“They made me sit in front and they immediately covered my face with a rag and sped off” he narrated, writing on a piece of paper as he was unable to talk.

Peace Nyiraguhirwa his sister and Charles Nzabonimpa his brother, told us that the kidnappers later called in and asked for Shs 1.8million, which they sent via mobile money.

The assailants later dumped Mfitundinda
in a bush from where he was saved by a passerby.

Rev. Mfitundinda says this was not the first kidnap incident in their family as earlier, two relatives were kidnapped by unknown assailants and their bodies were found in Ecyuya Bamboo Forest a few years ago.

The family is now asking the Police to investigate and arrest the culprits.

Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police Spokesman confirmed the incident and said that police has commenced investigations
