President Yoweri Museveni has been asked by leaders in Kisoro district –one of NRM’s greatest strongholds, — to stand again for the highest political office in the 2021 elections.
Ramathan Ndikuyeze the Kisoro District NRM Vice Chairperson and Kisoro Northern Division LC3 chairman said President Museveni should contest again because he is still active.
He noted that the president, who is also the chairman of the ruling NRM party, is still strong on the ground but is only weakened by the people he works with.
The opposition on the other hand, he said, is currently in its weakest form; immersed in internal squabbles and intrigue.
Ndikuyeze made this call on Saturday during the wedding of his son Ali Turinayo, and Sarah Irankunda in Chahi, Kisoro Municipality.
Speaking at the event, Dr Chris Baryomunsi the state Minister of Housing who represented President Museveni called on the NRM members to safeguard the current strength of the party through unity and cooperation.
He also asked the young leaders of Kisoro to engage in activities that contribute towards their own development.
In his speech read by the minister, President Museveni thanked Ndikuyeze for educating all his children into responsible citizens.
He also asked the young couple to respect each other, and also to work hard in order to sustain their future family.
The president gifted 10 cows to the newlyweds.
