Fr. Flugence Habarurema, a Priest at Mutolere Parish in Kabale Diocese in Kisoro District died yesterday after being swept away floods.
Fr Habarurema passed away at Mutolere Hospital in Kisoro town where he had been rushed on Wednesday evening after being swept off his motorcycle by floods.
He is said to have been riding to Kaara Parish for his pastoral work.
The Kabale Diocese Vicar General Monsqnior Silverio Twinomugisha termed the death of Habarurema as a big loss to the diocese.
He said the deceased was among the senior priests in the diocese, having served diligently for the last 20 years.
Twinomugisha revealed that the priest’s remains would be laid to rest on Saturday at the Mutolere Denary Cemetery.
Fr. Habarurema who hails from Nyamwegabire in Kihihi town council was ordained in July 1997 as priest by Late Bishop of Kabale Diocese Rev. Fr. Robert Mary Gay, at Nyamwegabire Parish in Kihihi sub county Kanungu district.
At least seven people are said to have been killed in the last few days by the floods that came with the intense rains in the Kigezi sub region.
