Kirinya Aim to Bounce Back Against Vipers

Kirinya Jinja SS vs Vipers SC  -4.30pm, Jinj

Kirinya Jinja SS coach Charles Ayiekho is confident there will be no repeat of what happened when his team hosted Onduparaka last week.

Having lost 3-0 to the Arua based side in Jinja, Kirinya will face Vipers at the Mighty Arena on Tuesday Tuesday hoping to bounce back.

“What happened against Onduparaka cannot happen again,” Ayiekho said ahead of the clash with the defending champions.

Kirinya have blown hot and cold early in the season partly because of the tricky fixture schedule that has seen them play Villa and KCCA in the first four games.

They collected a point from off Villa and KCCA before beating Tooro United and then dismally collapsing against Onduparaka.

“The fixture has not been kind to us but then there’s no easy opponent in the league,” Ayiekho added.

Vipers have had a dream start as they look to defend their title.

Having defeated Ndejje University to start life at the new look St. Mary’s Stadium, they beat Maroons FC, Nyamityobora and SC Villa to maintain their good run.

However, Kirinya is one of the teams Vipers has never beaten away from home.

Javier Martinez Espinoza must have gone through the records to know the kind of task ahead.

When Vipers were closing in on the league title last season, their trip to Jinja ended in a 1-1 draw to ensure celebrations were put on hold.

Dan Sserunkuma, who was the top scorer as Vipers lifted the trophy, knows the kind of challenge Kirinya pause.

“They are a stubborn side that we cannot take lightly. We have to take the game to them from the start and our team will not let complacency set in,” he said ahead of the tie.

Vipers captain Taddeo Lwanga starts his 2-match suspension following his red card in the 3-1 victory over Villa.

Left back Aggrey Madoi too is still sidelined and Yayo Lutimba will continue playing in that position.

On the other side, Kirinya will mission the services of Godfrey Akol who limped off in the 3-0 loss to Onduparaka.

There is however boost for the school side with the return of Fred Amaku who was by far their best player last season.

Amaku scored eight goals in the league in his maiden season at the Jinja based side and his combination with Joel Madondo is expected to wreck havoc to many back lines.
