Midfielder Isaac Kirabira has been a key figure at KCCA FC since his arrival in 2016 helping the team win several trophies and a good run on the continent.
Whereas not many would see his impact on the team, Kirabira a diminutive holding midfielder has been crucial to providing cover to KCCA FC backline and igniting attacking deep within his own half.
However, the former KCCA FC skipper seems to have fallen out of Mike Mutebi’s favour and pecking order no longer able to command a slot on the starting team with the coach opting for youngster Lawrence Bukenya, Saddam Juma and new arrival Nicholas Kasozi.
When tasked to answer why Kirabira no longer plays, Mutebi indicated there is a lot of competition in the defensive midfielder position and thus opts for who is in the right shape.
“ Isaac Kirabira is our player and very important in our set up but you should know that there is competition in that position and we go for who is better at that moment.” He said on Friday.
“We have Lawrence Bukenya, Saddam Juma, Nicholas Kasozi and him in that position so the competition is stiff and that is good for us because no one is guaranteed a place.”
With Saddam Juma out injured, Mutebi confirmed Kirabira will start the game against Maroons FC on Saturday in Luzira.
“No that Saddam is injured, he will start tomorrow against Maroons FC,” he confirmed. This will be Kirabira’s first league start this season.
Asked about Kasozi who has been on the fringes as well since his arrival from SC Villa, Mutebi indicated his time will come but he is gradually fitting into the system at KCCA FC.
