Kiir`s Top General Defects to Machar

Uganda and Football are probably intertwined, buy information pills basing on the lunacy normally exhibited by fans during African Cup Of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualification campaigns as well as the famous English Premier League.

But are they identical? May be not! On the look of things, website like this Ugandans love football but why has the country failed to walk the talk?

To seek for the answers, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) organized a football stakeholder’s forum that was held yesterday Friday at the Imperial Royale in Kampala. The Symposium zeroed on a theme;” The Road to AFCON Finals Starts Now”

The event was presided over by Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, who represented President Yoweri Museveni; the initially invited guest of honor.

In his speech read by VP Ssekandi, President Museveni acknowledged government’s awareness of the importance of sports not only for the health and social wellbeing of the people, but also the great role it plays in marketing the country.

He further said that Sports such as Football, is indeed a big business worldwide and therefore could contribute tremendously to the country’s economy.

He noted thus, that government is committed to continually support all endeavors aimed at promoting sports in the country.

The forum that had presenters and discussants from FUFA, Media, Government, Corporate world and Ex-Footballers, had many discussants calling on the government to fully take over the national team.


Edgar Watson, the FUFA Chief Executive Officer called on the government to regularly come in and support the national team, adding that it should take responsibility of providing basic requirements for the Uganda Cranes.
Edgar cited examples of teams like Equatorial Guinea where government is fully responsible for the national teams.
However, Hon Charles Bakkabulindi the state minister for sports, cautioned FUFA to be ready to comply with the Government’s demands if they’re to get the money.

At the event, FUFA and many other participants sounded optimistic that the outcome of this meet would impact positively on the future of football in Uganda.

Meanwhile, Paul Ssali the legend goalkeeper for the Cranes in the 1978 African Cup of Nations complained of what he called lack of the ideal people at the symposium.

He wondered how the organizers failed to invite people like senior media personnel and the players those who took part in the 1978 AFCON finals and even the current ones whom he said are the main actors in the country’s quest to qualify.

“How can we go to AFCON when people with ideas are left out?”Ssali fumed.



New Telecom Company Vodafone Uganda this morning commercially launched voice and 4G LTE high-speed data services.

Officials say the 4G high-speed data services will initially be available in Kampala and Entebbe and the company plans to rapidly expand its 4G footprint to other cities.

Customers outside Kampala & Entebbe will initially have access to 2G and in some areas 3G services.

Recently unveiled in the country, view Vodafone Uganda is part of the global telecoms group Vodafone which has mobile operations in 26 countries and partners with mobile networks in 54 more, this including the largest footprint of 4G networks across Europe.

As part of its launch, the company announced the launch of unlimited data plans which is targeted at the business & individual customers.

Offering unlimited data plans for the consumer market is a first in the Ugandan market.

Vodacom’s Head of Marketing Jackie Namara told press that the price for the monthly unlimited plan starts from only Shs149,000 per month, that is less than UGX5000 per day.

“For this price, customers can enjoy unlimited downloads, surfing and streaming at great speeds. This introductory offer will be available for a limited period only. During this period, new Vodafone Uganda customers that purchase a monthly unlimited plan will also receive one of Vodafone’s 4G LTE data devices for free,” she said.

“Customers say the entry price for mobile devices is too high and we have lowered it. They have requested for the option to pay a fixed daily, weekly or monthly price for data without worrying about running out of bundles and we have introduced the Unlimited Plan.”

Jackie further commented that, “We have not forgotten those users that want to keep using data bundles. They say it is unfair to lose data they’ve already paid for. This is why we are giving customers who purchase any of our monthly bundles starting from only UGX19,900 the option to carry-forward unused data.”

For voice customers, Vodafone Uganda launched a new promotion dubbed ‘Talk is free on 0723’, guaranteeing free “on-net” Vodafone to Vodafone calls when they load airtime of UGX 3,000 or more.

A South Sudanese General has dramatically left the side of President Salva Kiir and joined that of former Vice President Dr. Riek Machar who is leading a stiff armed struggle against the Juba regime.

Maj. Gen. Khamis Abdallatif Chawul Lom who late last year resigned his position as the Director of South Sudan national television SSTV, check surprised everyone on Saturday when he appeared at Dr. Machar`s Public Address in the neighboring Kenyan capital Nairobi.

The SPLM- In Opposition`s (rebel) event at Safari Park Hotel and Casino even went more astonishing when Gen. Khamis declared his stance disowning president Kiir and officially announced his defection to the Machar`s group.

“I am very happy to join the rest here today. I am finally where I am supposed and want to be.” Gen. Khamis told hundreds of South Sudanese on Saturday in Nairobi.

Gen. Khamis who only served his top position at SSTV for months had a big power struggle with the minister of information, check Michael Makuei for all his time at the national TV.

Khamis was directly appointed by Kiir in a presidential decree which put him a direct collusion with Makuei. In normal circumstances, information pills Khamis was supposed to be supervised by Makuei whose docket oversees the national TV but owing to the former assuming his position through a presidential decree, matters got complicated.

Gen. Khamis was arrested immediately after the 15th December 2013 event together with Dr. Machar`s office manager, Mr. Deng Deng but was later released and months later reinstated to internal affairs ministry and consequently appointed director SSTV, the last position he served in Kiir`s government.

All generals in Machar`s group defected from the mainstream SPLA/M and many were disgruntles who wanted to revenge.

President Kiir and Machar however this week signed an historic SPLM Reunification Agreement in the Tanzanian capital of Addis Ababa mediated by the ruling Chama Chama Mapenduzi.
