Residents on Kabale and Kisoro district on Wednesday were excited seeing the Ugandan manufactured KIIRA EVS, also known as the The Beast, which is being showcased in Western Uganda.
The sedan prototype pulled crowds along Kabale – Kisoro highway in Kabale town and in Kisoro town near the Mayor’s Gardens as hundreds gathered to get a glimpse.
David Asimwe a resident of Kabale town said he was excited because he had been hearing about the car on radio.
He commended Kiira Motors Corporation, the makers of the hybrid car and encouraged them to produce.
Sam Arinaitwe, the Kabale Central Division Chairperson said he was happy with the decision to showcase the vehicle in the different regions of the country, which he said would inspire Ugandans to embark on ambitious ventures.
Allan Muhumuza, the Business Development Manager Kiira Motors Corporation, says they decided to exhibit the vehicle in various parts of the country to demonstrate to Ugandans the vast opportunities in the automotive industry for local content development.
He says Ugandans will be able to benefit directly through prospects for manufacturing and supplying vehicle parts to Kiira.
The KIIRA EV SMACK is a 5-seater front-wheel drive sedan with a traction motor powered by a rechargeable battery bank and an internal combustion engine-based generator. It is the first Electric Hybrid Vehicle designed and built in Africa.
