22-year-old Kankwanzi Margaret from Kigezi region, a student of Tourism was on Friday night crowned 2018 Miss Tourism Uganda beating other eleven contestants at Serena Hotel Kampala.
Kankwanzi was followed by Ayene Emily from Karamoja, and Lebu Laura from West Nile as first and second runners up respectively.
Speaking at the crowing night Godfrey Kiwanda the minister of State Tourism and Antiquities said that the pageant has grown despite the death of its founder Maria Mutagamba.
“Miss Tourism has grown progressively and I thank the late Hon. Maama Maria Mutagamba for her dedicated support to make this what it is now and I urge the contestants to sell this product with all their capabilities and knowledge,” he said.
Adding to his voice Aisha Nagudi the brand manager Miss Tourism Uganda thanked the girls for taking part in the contestants and asked them to love and respect their heritage
“For all the contestants from the various regions make an effort to know what other regions besides yours have to enable you have vast knowledge about the great opportunities Uganda has to offer to the international world,” she said.
The new queen was awarded a piece of land in her home region which will be used for promoting tourism, a university scholarship and a trip to a destination of her choice via Ethiopian airlines.
Kankwanzi will be representing Uganda in Malaysia in the Miss Tourism World campaigns.
