Kigezi Bishop Calls for Anti-Booze Law

Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi, help the Bishop of North Kigezi diocese has asked Members of Parliament to move fast and enact laws to fight excessive and under age consumption of alcohol.

Bishop Magezi says that there is a worryingly growing rate of Alcohol consumption amongst the youths especially in the Kigezi region, this site which needs to be addressed.

He noted that in the south western region, an estimated Shs. 300million is spent on alcohol every month, which he termed as a major threat to local poverty alleviation efforts.

The Bishop was on Sunday preaching to Christians during Easter prayers at St. Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano Rukungiri district.

In the service that was attended by the Rtd. Dr. Col Kizza Besigye, the man of God asked Ugandans mostly politicians to use the  Easter season to reconcile with each other saying that hatred has only bred evil.

“The rampant murders, family breakages, and climate change also cause us great concern as church leaders,” he said.
