Isaaya Mbeeta, a Kanungu farmer who was on Monday kidnapped by suspected militia from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been released.
The release was secured after his family paid Shs 1.5 million to the kidnappers.
Mbeeta, a resident of Munyaga cell, Western ward in Kanungu district was on Monday at around 10am kidnapped by gunmen from his garden which is located a short distance across the DRC border.
The captors reportedly called his family demanding for 2 million shillings.
The area regional police spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the release.
He says Mbeeta told authorities that he couldn’t figure out which group of militia kidnapped him because they had masks on their faces.
