High Court Judge Jane Francis Abodo has convicted 29 year old Eguchi Emmanuel, a resident of Kibuli in Kampala, for defiling a 10year old girl
The conviction followed the suspect’s request for the charges to be read to him afresh, to which he pleaded guilty.
Despite his guilty plea, the State Prosecutor Nandawula Lillian asked the trial judge to give the convict a deterrent sentence of not less than 15 years, to serve as an example to other would be offenders
“The victim was of tender age, the convict was a friend to the victim’s father and therefore the victim looked up to him since he stayed with them at home” Nandawula submitted.
She added that the victim sustained serious injuries in her private parts as a result of being defiled.
The defense counsel asked court to consider the fact that Eguchi didn’t waste court’s time and resources by undergoing a full trial; and to therefore give him a lenient sentence of about 5months.
He added that court should take into consideration the two years the suspect has spent on remand and the fact that he is willing to compensate the victim’s father for the costs he incurred while treating his daughter.
The judge has set the 11th December as the date which he will deliver the sentence
Prosecution contends that on 3rd May 2016 while at Kibuli village in Nakibinge zone Kampala District he performed sexual acts with a 10 year old girl.
