Police has today arrested Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Presidential Candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat in Kibaale district.
Amuriat together with his driver a one Micheal was apprehended on his way to Kakumiro district.
Unlike previous arrests, this time Amuriat was arrested without any scuffle.
In what looked to be a planned move, Amuriat’s convoy was intercepted by five police trucks on his way from Gangi trading center.
Before his arrest, Five Counter Terrorism Police Officers ordered his aide a one Brian and FDC’s Electoral Commission (EC) boss Toterebuka Bamwenda out of his vehicle.
Subsequently, they gave express orders to drive to Kakumiro Police Station.
According to Deogratius Obura Bunyoro Regional Police Commander (RPC) the FDC President was apprehended for flouting traffic regulations while campaigning in the area.
However, it is believed that trouble could have stemmed from early morning confrontations Amuriat had at Gangi trading center, Kagadi Town and Muhorro and Gangi town in Kibaale District.
Police was forced to fire tear gas at Gangi after Amuriat failed to follow Police’s route plan. In the same vein, he was blocked by Police from proceeding to Karuguuza town in Kibaale town for unknown reasons. Apparently, he is being held at Kakumiro Police station awaiting official communication.
This is the eighth time Amuriat is being apprehended for flouting campaign guidelines after similar incidents in Gulu, Kitgum and Mbarara among many others.
According to the EC programme, Amuriat was scheduled to campaign in Kakumiro, Kibaale and Kagadi districts today.
