Kibaale: Chaos as MP Tinkasiimire is Arrested

The Kabale District security team led by RDC Darius Nandinda yesterday ordered organizers of today’s NRM party primary elections to open all election materials sent from Kampala and have the ballot papers recounted ahead of the election.

This came after it was discovered that some of the envelopes containing the ballots for Rukiga country were tampered with.

The exercise which started at 4pm at the private sector promotion conference hall, proceeded to late in the night and the parcels were renumbered before being transported to their respective polling stations.

Meanwhile Security in Kabale district has been beefed up ahead of todays exercise.


According to Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate, police and other security operatives have been deployed and will keep peace throughout the election.

Police and UPDF soldiers have been seen in the municipality, the most probable area of election violence.

The Uganda People Defense Forces Second Division Spokesperson Major Roland  Kakurungu says that they are determined to help police to ensure that sanity prevails.

Upon being detained at Muhooro Police Station, Tinkasiimire’s supporters stormed the law enforcement facility, saying they want their leader released.

Tinkasiimire returned to NRM a few months ago after apologising to President Museveni for tarnishing the party chairman’s name and being insubordinate to the ruling organisation’s rules.
