Kenyan Ivory Recovered in Uganda

Police Flying Squad unit in the Kampala Metropolitan East together with the Natural Resource Conservation Network (NRCN) last week caught red handed one notorious ivory trafficker identified as Agele Swaibu, there 59 a resident of Naguru-Kasenge, try Nakawa Division, with a batch of ivory pieces believed from neighboring Kenya.

Upon his arrest, he confessed to have picked the contraband from Ephraim Kator also known as Abraham a resident of Amudat district.

On getting this information, police acted swiftly to hunt for Abraham, who was arrested on yesterday Sunday in Amudat and brought to Kampala Kira Road Police Station

The suspects are currently detained at the police station waiting to appear in courts of law. The arrested confessed to have been in business for many years but acting as middle men for the Pokot worriers on the Kenyan side.

The suspects were reportedly in the process of delivering 8 pieces of mature elephant ivory.

Elephant populations of many African countries were being decimated until the U.N. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species banned the ivory trade in 1989.
