Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers
Kenya 1-0 Uganda
Unlike on the previous occasions where the Crested Cranes have been battered by rivals Kenya in women football engagements, there was a great improvement by the Ugandan side.
Kenya Starlets needed extra efforts to edge past a defensive and hard fighting Crested Cranes team in the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
A goal in the second half by Lillian Adera was enough to help Kenya secure victory in the first leg encounter played at the Machakos stadium In Kenya.
Uganda who went with the intention of getting a positive result opted to play a defensive game which seemed to upset the Kenyans.
However, the decisive moment came just upon resumption when goalkeeper Ruth Aturo who had moved off her line failed to deal with Adera’s strike.
Uganda was hard done with left back Grace Aluka pulling a muscle while winger Zaina Namuleme collapsed and their places were taken up by Gladys Nakitto and Winnie Babirye respectively.
The two sides face off in the return leg this Sunday at Startimes stadium with the winner advancing to the next qualifying stage.
