Uganda Premier League
Police 0-1 KCCA FC
Young protégé Herbert Achai was on target as KCCA completed a double over relegation strugglers Police FC with a 0-1 win in the Uganda Premier League on Wednesday.
Following a 3-2 first leg defeat, Police’s winless run extends to six matches leaving them truly in the relegation battle
The result saw the Kasasiro boys progress to 49 points, consolidating the 2nd position as Police remain with a miserable 22 points.
KCCA goalkeeper Ali Mwerusi, on his full debut denied Dennis Rukundo going on to maintain solidity in between the posts throughout the 90 minutes. Charles Lukwago’s injury could prove to be a blessing in disguise.
As the match gained pace, Police coach, Abdallah Mubiru withdrew wasteful striker Andrew Kigozi Samson for Basani Safi midway through the first half.
KCCA’s goal came in the 20th minute when midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba set up Achai on the edge of the box for the teenager to send a left footed scorcher past Police custodian Davis Mutebi.
A Mutyaba free kick later rattled the cross bar before Sadat Anaku’s header was counseled by the offside flag in the later stages.
Achai who made the difference between the sides parted with the man of the match accolade along with One Hundred Thousand shillings.
KCCA despite the win remain four points adrift of the Venoms while the day’s opponents sink into the 15th on 22 points.
Next for Police is an away game to URA at the Arena of Visions-Bombo on Friday 6th March after KCCA welcome Proline at Lugogo three days earlier.
