KCCA has announced partnership with Kyambogo University to construct a learning center for children with disabilities.
The director of education and social services at KCCA Juliet Nambi Namuddu made the revelation while speaking at the annual awareness day for children with special needs which took place at MTN Arena in Lugogo
“As KCCA we are coming up together with Kyambogo university to have a learning centre for the handicapped where we can identify children’s challenges that are not necessarily physical but also mental. Our role is to make sure that all children are given their very best,” she said
Namuddu says the facility may be able to commence operation before the end of this year.
“The centre is in Nakivubo blue primary school. This centre had been set up by the Ministry but was not functioning. Now we have a partner that has enabled us to have it refurbished”
Namuddu further said KCCA recently recruited an “inclusive officer” that will be the coordinator for the disabled children, parents, schools and organizations
However, she says KCCA cannot do it alone as education but adds that they are going to work closely with the directorate of public health, and directorate of gender in order give services that are required.
The event was organized by NGOs special children’s Trust (SCT), Mukisa foundation, Dawn Children’s centre and their partners and was attended by children with various physical, mental and other forms of disabilities.
