KCCA Host Vipers in Titanic Title Decider

The Uganda Premier League title race could take a new twist on Thursday when the two contestants, KCCA FC and Vipers SC, go head-to-head at the StarTimes stadium in Lugogo.

The Kasasiro boys lead the table with 52 points, four more than the Kitende side they’re plotting to displace.

It is largely believed, and rightly so, that this same fixture at Kitende decided the league’s race last season as Vipers denied KCCA a three-peat.

The two have, of recent, matched each other pound-for-pound both on the pitch and off it. They have created a duopoly that has thrown the traditional VEK (Villa, Express and KCCA) rivalry out.

They have shared the last six premier League titles between them with KCCA keeping four and Vipers two.

KCCA head coach Mike Mutebi agrees with the majority that the gamecould decide the title race but assures that his side is ready for the
task.

“We are playing against arguably one of the best sides in the country,” Mutebi acknowledged, adding, “Many have dubbed it as the title decider.

“Well, to me, it is a tie that has a lot to play for. We are well prepared for the game and we know what is at stake. We win it and the road to win the Championship is softened.”

Vipers SC assistant coach Edward Golola, too, had respect for their opponent but stated that his team is very ready for what KCCA will
throw at them.

“KCCA is a good team with very good players but we are very well prepared,” Vipers’ Golola said ahead of the game adding that, “the team is set both physically and mentally.”

The Venoms have won 50 percent of the last 18 meetings with KCCA, drawing five while KCCA have only won four.

KCCA has a near-fit squad to field with the exception of Julius Poloto who suffered a knock in training.

Vipers, on the other hand, will miss four players; Goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya, Geofrey Wasswa, Tito Okello and Bashir Asiku. The first two
are injured while the others have been slapped with internal suspension for indiscipline cases.
