KCCA FC vs Onduparaka FC, 4:30 pm
Match-day 3 of Uganda’s top football division, the Azam Uganda Premier League gets off on Tuesday with 4 matches at different grounds.
Startimes Stadium in Lugogo will see defending Champions KCCA FC welcome the visitors Onduparaka FC in a tricky tie.
KCCA FC players showed energy during Onduparaka’s last visit at Lugogo to face off, winning the encounter by a 7-0 score-line.
A hat-trick from Allan Okello, a brace from Robert Ssentongo and one each from Paul Musamali and Geoffrey Sserunkuma sealed the ruthless victory.
Much has changed since then; Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Ivan Ntege, Joseph Ochaya and Robert Ssentogo have all left the Yellow Submariners for greener pastures, but the remaining group is quite assured that they are capable of defeating the Arua-based club.
Speaking at the team’s pre-match press Conference, KCCA FC reigning Captain Denis Okot said: “We are not worried about Onduparaka FC but it’s not going to be an easier tie. As a club, we need this victory more than them because they atleast won at Maroons recently.”
He added, “We are ready for them and we are well-equipped for them, and the bottom line is to win tomorrow.”
Visitors Onduparaka FC have not been good visitors. The team conceded 28 goals on the road last season from their 15 away games, a poor record which was only bettered by JMC Hippos who shipped in 31 goals.
Onduparaka FC last season, won only three away games, drew five and lost seven of their 15 away league games.
This season, the Caterpillars have started brightly, drawing with Proline before winning Maroons at Luzira Prisons Grounds.
KCCA FC are yet to record maximum points, with draws at home to Maroons which was followed by another draw away in Bombo against UPDF FC.
KCCA FC midfielder Isaac Kirabira is not bothered by the team’s recent slump in form.
“We must get ourselves out this situation and find our feet again; we are supposed to be getting results and not giving away points and are a little ruthless,” Kirabira as quoted by the Club’s website.
“There is really no problem, we just have to find the right mentality and stay consistent, that we are working on and the game on Tuesday will be testimony, we are winning it for our fans, they have been so loyal and continue.”
