Economic Monitoring Minister Molly Kamukama is set to contest as Member of Parliament for Kazo Constituency MP on an Independent ticket, Chimp Corps exclusively report.
Kamukama recently lost a petition before Mbarara High Court challenging the election of Jennifer Muheesi Abaho as the NRM flag bearer for Kazo District Woman MP.
Attempts to appeal the court verdict did not bear fruit.
She wondered why her case was handled by the “deputy register who had no jurisdiction to hear an election petition.”
“Today, I am nominating as an independent,” Kamukama told ChimpReports on Thursday afternoon.
She joins Technology Minister Elioda Tumwesigye who was this morning nominated on independent ticket after losing to Dicksons Kateshumbwa in the NRM MP Primaries.
Kamukama, who previously served as the Principal Private Secretary of President Museveni before being transferred to Cabinet, believes she won the NRM primaries.
The NRM EC said Muheesi polled 16,802 votes against Kamukama’s 16,715 – a margin of just 87 votes.
The election was marred by violence and counter accusations of rigging.
Today marks the start of the two-day exercise of nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2021.
The nominations are being conducted at the respective district/city headquarters in all the 146 districts/cities across the country, starting at 9:00 am till 5:00 pm on each day.
