This has been confirmed by Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health. According to her, the hospital will now handle specialized medical referral needs.
Atwine said that the Kayunga health facility has been a general hospital managed at the district but its transformation into a Regional Referral Hospital will avail services that will benefit the people from districts including Amolatar, Buikwe, Nakasongola and Kayunga among others.
Among the renovation works done is the expansion and renovation of the old buildings and construction of an emergency department, administration block, theatre, out and in-patient wards, 130 staff houses and a sewage lagoon.
The hospital, before its upgrade, had a bed capacity of 100, but has been expanded to 300 beds.
