Kampala Deputy RCC in charge of Kawempe division Hood Hussein has raised concern over the ongoing presidential campaigns by National Unity Platform and Forum for Democratic Change candidates vowing he won’t let them in his area of jurisdiction.
According to Hussein, the two candidates carry out unregulated rallies which are most likely to accelerate the spread of Covid-19 therefore he will not allow them in his area.
In a bid to achieve and enforce the ban, Hood notified the Electoral commission in a letter to the chairman informing him of the continued flouting of Covid-19 guidelines by Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi and Patrick Amuriat and his intended blockade on them.
The chairman of the Electoral commission Justice Byabakama in his response advised the RCC not to involve himself in the electoral process saying that it is not his mandate.
“I acknowledge the receipt of Mr. Hood’s letter but I strongly advise him to stay away from the Electoral processes because it is not his role. By law, his job is well defined and he is supposed to head the security committee of his area of jurisdiction,” Justice Byabakama said.
This comes high on the heels as the FDC presidential candidate is set to campaign in the Kampala Metropolitan areas including Kawempe division.
The secretary general of Forum for Democratic Change Hon. Nandala Mafabi said that the RCC’s intentions are unlawful and they will disobey him.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission revealed that they are set to meet with authorities in security to devise solutions for the continuous accusations of high handedness against some candidates going forward.
