Katwe: Man Arrested While Packing Fake Sanitizers

Katwe Police Division in Kampala is holding a man who was arrested while packing fake hand sanitizers and disinfectants as the coronavirus scare continues to mount.

The suspect identified as Stephen Kaite is a resident of Nsambya central in Makindye division.

According to KMP spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango, Police was tipped about the culprit and rushed to the scene to arrest him.

At the scene, Onyango said that detectives recovered exhibits such as thermometers, Jerricans, bottles of the purported sanitation gel labelled with stickers of “Life care diagnostics”

“He admitted to the crime of dealing in counterfeit products,” Onyango said

Police have partnered with counterparts from Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and National Medical Stores in investigating this case.

Onyango appealed to the public to watch out for fake sanitizers and disinfectants as some individuals may want to take advantage of unsuspecting Ugandans during the prevailing coronavirus scare.

Recently, security also arrested two people in Mayuge district who had started vaccinating locals against the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, Uganda has not yet registered any case of the virus infection.

The ministry of health has also issued a toll free number for the public to report any cases of suspected corona virus victims.

The number is 0800100066
