The Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has condemned the recent disruption by police of the a Mbogo clan meeting.
Over the weekend Police fired tear gas and bullets to disperse Mbogo Clan members at the Thanksgiving ceremony of their clan head Kayiira at their ancestral land in Mugulu, Singo Mityana district.
In attendance was Kyadondo East Legislator Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was expected
Several elders ran away, while others were seen suffering with the effects of teargas.
In his statement released on Sunday, Mayiga condemned Police’s action which he said didn’t only amount to violation of Human Rights but also undermine the culture of Buganda Kingdom.
He pointed out that subjecting clan heads to such horrible acts at their cultural grounds even after observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was regrettable
“We ask all those who were affected by this incident to follow up the matters in accordance with the law. We pray that such acts don’t happen again.”
In her response about this incident, Rachael Kawala the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson said the Police actions were aimed at enforcing Ministry of Health guidelines on Covid19.
