The UPDF Court Martial at Hima Barracks in Kasese District has charged four soldiers who allegedly took part in the killing of a civilian last week.
The suspects are Pte. Abraham Lokwap, 23; Pte Jackson Nyero, 23, Pte Joel Otim 23, and Lt Telent Akampurira who is aged 34.
These are accused to shooting to death one Benon Nsimenta during an early morning patrol.
The shooting happened last week on June 24th at Kikura cell in Kasese district.
The suspects are said to have stopped Nsimenta, who was riding on a motorcycle with his wife to their garden and ended up shooting him at close range.
Before the army court chaired by Lt Col Felix Nyero, the accused were charged with Murder which is contrary to Section 189 of the Penal Code Act.
UPDF Spokesman Brig Richard Karemire while commenting on the development, said the suspects had to individually face the consequences of their actions.
“These are individual acts of errant soldiers and their conduct does not reflect the policy or even the character of the UPDF,” he said.
“We will not relent on our commitment to guarantee to the country a disciplined army.”
