Kampala Metropolitan Police is holding two of its officers attached to Kasangati Police Station following the death of a suspect in police cell.
According to KMP Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire, there are two allegations pointing to the death of a suspect which detectives are investigating.
It is alleged that on 8th August, a suspect now deceased identified as Alex Lubiika was arrested with an exhibit of a suspected stolen goat by 999 patrols and taken to the police station.
But in the process of disembarking, it is said that an angry mob pounced on the suspect and beat him badly.
Another narrative indicates that the suspect was tortured to death by police officers.
Owoyesigire said that they’re investigating three officers, though one identified as Jimmy Rugambamazima is currently on the run.
The two in custody are a one PC William Mugodi and corporal Robina Namagalu.
Police publicist revealed that they are investigating them over two cases of negligence of duty and possibility of torture.
