Thursday night, Police in Kasangati killed a suspected robber in a night shootout at midnight.
The deceased was part of a gang that attacked one of the residents in Manyangwa zone, Kansangati in Wakiso district.
Kampala Metropolitan police in the night, Kasangati Police received a distress call from a One Twinamatsiko Wilber that thugs had attacked his home and were armed with pangas, a pick axe and a rifle.
The Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango, says the OC Manyangwa Police post called IP Ampadde Dan and his team immediately responded to the call.
“At the scene they noticed one of the thugs holding an SMG rifle but seemed to be guarding his colleagues who were inside looting,” he said
“When he noticed the officers, he started firing bullets towards the officers. Exchange of gunfire between the thugs and Police ensued. In the process one thug was killed but others fled.”
Onyango says the one who was killed had no identification papers. His body was taken to City mortuary Mulago for post-mortem.
Friday morning, a team of detectives visited the scene, recorded statements from witnesses and recovered cartridges.
Onyango told the press that investigations into the incident is ongoing to trace for the rest of the thugs.
This was the second operation against criminals in Kasangati area.
On Wednesday, the Crime Intelligence Unit raided a notorious B13 Criminal gang in an operation which left one suspect killed and nine arrested.
