Isaiah Kanyamahane, the Ntungamo Deputy RDC was on Saturday elected as the first convocation chairperson of Kabale University in the hotly contested election.
In the poll held at the Kikungiri hill campus in Kabale Municipality, Kanyamahane defeated Robert Kakuru Byamugisha the executive director of Kick Corruption Out of Uganda, 158 to 32 votes.
Kakuru, who has been the interim chairperson of the convocation accepted defeat and vowed to support the new convocation leadership.
“I appreciate those that participated in the convocation process; winning and losing are key elements of a democratic process.”said Kakuru.
Others that were elected are Saturday Alex as vice chairperson, Nalis Tibenderana as Secretary, Grace Kiiza as deputy secretary, Denis Singahakye as council representative, Christopher Ahimbisibwe and as Senate representative. Others are Emmanuel Arinaitwe, Rachel Kyomugisha, Cathrine kyomugisha, Dr Stanley Kenyatta, Judith Ahimbisibwe and Nicholas kamwesiga.
Kanyamahane promised to work with his team for the development of Kabale University and applauded Kakuru for conceding defeat.
