Kanungu: Town Clerk Arrested for Embezzling Shs 400M

The Chairman Electoral Commission, information pills Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu has assured the general public of genuine and ballot papers that cannot be duplicated for the coming general elections.

This was during the National Stakeholders’ workshop in preparation for the general elections at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala where EC was meeting candidates’ representatives at all levels.

Kiggundu noted that to ensure good quality of the ballot papers, the Commission took a decision to have all ballots printed outside the country. Presidential and Parliamentary ballot papers are being printed in South Africa; LC V papers in Dubai while for LC III are being printed in London.

Kiggindu revealed that the printing is in its final stages and that they certainly would be delivered on time.

He however expressed concern over the delayed response by candidates to send representatives to the printers so as to supervise the on-going work.

“We sent out invitations to all candidates to send representatives to the printers but a few have responded.”

At the meeting, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Electoral Commission Chairman, Dan Mugarura called upon the Electoral Commission to provide security identification gadgets that will help detect and screen ballot papers.

‘It’s one thing to go to South Africa and another to be able to verify whether the ballots being used are genuine; unless EC provides us with gadgets, we shall still not be able to know how genuine the ballots are,”


“We need infrared light to identify the security features that are claimed to be used in the ballot papers or else visiting the printers will be wastage of time.”

David Muhwezi the Butogota town council town clerk has been arrested for embezzling 400 million shillings.

Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesman confirmed the arrest and revealed that Muhwezi, about it  who is  a resident of Butogota central ward, information pills Butogota town council  Kanungu district was arrested on 07th January 2016 on allegations that the said amount of money sent around June 2015, dosage for working on Kibiriti road in Butogota town council was not put to proper use.

Maate says that police have commenced the investigations in the matter and on completion; he will be arraigned in court and charged accordingly.

“It’s very unfortunate to misuse public funds which are supposed to benefit the local community. Investigations are ongoing to establish the truth of the matter,” he said.
