An Anglican priest in Kinkiizi Diocese in Kanungu District has been arrested for conducting a church service during the ongoing Covid19 lockdown.
Rev Canon Patrick Habasa was arrested together with three others yesterday after they were found holding a church service which police says was a negligent act likely to cause the spread of Covid19.
Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police Spokesman says at around 11am on Sunday, police in Butogota led by OC ASP Joel Bikuta received information about an ongoing church service at Nyamiyaga Church of Uganda.
Upon arriving at the church, police found the priest conducting a baptism session.
Maate says a total of 25 people were found in the church, four of whom were arrested including Rev Canon Habasa.
Maate says the suspects are currently being detained at Kanungu central police station and will be charged for committing a negligent act likely to spread infectious diseases.
