Kanungu MP Rescues Student Constituents Stranded in Kampala

Over 500 students and people from Kanungu that have been stranded for the last three months in Kampala following the Covid19 lockdown and closure of educational institutions have at last received help from Elizabeth Karungi, the Kanungu woman member of parliament.

The MP today Thursday started transporting them back home.

In the same drive, at least 100 other people in other categories shall also be transported back home especially the elderly and badly affected vendors.

Karungi, speaking to our reporter said she was prompted to act following many calls by the students from her district who needed help.

Karungi said that in today’s first round of transporting the affected learners, a total of 105 learners are being transported back to their homes in Kanungu using three Parliamentary Vans with each carrying 35 students.

Karungi noted that she will be fuelling the vans and covering any other transportation costs.

The vans she said, shall be carrying the learners daily until everyone is safely back home.

Julius Kamugisha, Sarah Murungi, and Joan Ayebare, some of the students being transported back home commended the legislator for the initiative saying they have been toiling in Kampala with no food among other basic needs since they had no money and were unable to come back home.
