Kanungu Mother Flees Home After Mob Attack

Oliver Kyatuheire, a resident of Nyarutoojo Trading Center in Kambuga Sub County, Kanungu district has fled her home after a mob of residents attacked her home, set her house on fire, killed her livestock and cut down her banana plantation.

The mob attacked Kyatuheire after her son, Vicent Nuwamanya was implicated and arrested over the murder of a one Ahumuza Denis, a resident of the same village.

Ahumuza was murdered on Sunday 10th March 2019, as he returned home from watching a football match and his body was dumped in a banana plantation.

On hearing of the arrest of Niwamanya, the locals mobilized and descended on his mother’s house and set it ablaze, killed her pigs and cut down her banana plantation yesterday morning, forcing her to flee for dear life together her children, which prompted the police to intervene.

Kambuga Sub County District Councillor Bosco Kahiigi condemned the attack on the innocent widowed woman, saying that the suspected acts of her son should not be held onto the mother.

Kanungu District Police Commander Tugumenawe Joram said the Police rushed to the scene to calm the situation and also held a meeting with the area leaders and residents to sensitize them on the dangers of mob justice.

Kyatuheire, who fled with nothing but her kids from her house, has since taken refuge at Kanungu Police Station where sympathisers are now helping her to reconstruct her life.

The Police have also vowed to hunt down and bring to book all the people that took part in the act.
