Nine cows and a number of chicken belonging to a retired clergy in Kanungu district were on Sunday struck dead by lightning.
The animals belonged to Rev Eliphaz Tibemanya, a resident of Kyepatiko village in Nyakinoni Sub County, Kanungu district.
Residents say the incident took place Sunday afternoon during the heavy downpour which had intense lightning.
The cows according to the locals, had taken shelter under a tree during the downpour.
Rev Tibemanya who was at his home at the time, said the incident was devastating.
He narrated that the lightening was so powerful that it threw him off his chair and was unconscious for a few minutes.
This is the 3rd deadly lightening incident in a week in the district.
On June 14th 2020, a 16-year-old S.2 student of Trinity College Butugota identified as Amutuheire Patience was struck dead by lightening in Rutendere village, as she took shelter at a neighbour’s home.
On the same day, a man in Kanyungusi village in Kanyatorogo Sub County was rushed to Kihihi Health Center IV after he was struck by lightning and was paralysed.
