Kamwenge town council mayor Geoffrey Byamukama, who made news last year after he was tortured by police officers, has lost his wife Viola Komugisha.
Mr. Byamukama was brutally tortured at the dreaded Nalufenya Police detention center after his arrest on suspicion of masterminding the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
On Tuesday, his wife Komugisha passed away at Kagongo hospital in Ibanda district at the age of 66.
A requiem mass for the deceased was held at St. Stephen’s Cathedral before being laid to rest yesterday at her ancestral home in Kitagwenda County Kamwenge district.
Komugisha was the LC 1 chairperson for Kikaritusi village in Kamwenge town council for the last 20 years.
She succumbed to hypertension which she had battled even at the time of the arrest of her husband in April last year.
Her husband Byamukama says at the time he was arrested in Kampala, he had come to get medicine for the deceased.
During the burial, Byamukama described his wife as a passionate woman who was patient and loved educating children.
Hon Cuthbert Abigaba, Kibale MP acknowledged the late as trustworthy, loyal and down to earth adviser.
