Kampala Metropolitan Police has this afternoon recovered two dead bodies from the heavy floods along the Nakivubo Channel around Clock Tower in downtown Kampala after a heavy downpour.
KMP spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango said that these bodies were carried by flood water from different places around the city.
The first body to be retrieved is of female juvenile aged 12 years, identified as Namazzi Alyera, a resident of Nsambya Kitooro, Makindye Division, Kampala Capital City.
“It’s alleged that Namazzi was playing with her friends during the rain and their ball fell in the trench. She tried to remove the ball, but the water overpowered her and swept her away,” reads part of the statement regarding the incident.
Onyango revealed that her body was swept up to Clock Tower, where a boda boda rider saw it and informed the police.
Police went and retrieved the body, however, mid way the operation, another body appeared and it was also removed.
By press time, the second body had not been identified yet but it is of a male adult.
Recently, a woman was swept away into a drainage system and her body has never been recovered.
Police has appealed to the public, especially in Kampala City, to take extra care during this rainy season.
“We appeal to members of the public to be very cautious during this rainy season,” Onyango said
