Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa has been removed from the strategic position and replaced with Moses Kafeero.
Mwesigwa served under Gen Kale Kayihura and played a key role in enforcing law and order in the city after the heated general elections in 2016.
Kafeero has been heading the Police Training School in Bwebajja.
He took this position as soon as he returned from a course in Rwanda.
According to Police Spokesman Emilian Kayima, Mwesigwa who previously served in Counter Terrorism, will head the Tourism Police Department.
Many observers will see the transfer as a demotion, considering his previous post was well facilitated and allowed him take part in high level decision making on national security.
Seen as a clean man, Mwesigwa will be credited for activating security committees in city suburbs that facilitated intelligence gathering and fighting crime.
However, it’s understood Mwesigwa was weak on command.
Crime has as well been on the rise in the city.
His redeployment could be aimed at bringing on board a more experienced officer to deal with criminals in the city.
Kafeero served in different capacities as a senior officer in Kampala Metropolitan Police.
ACP Lawrence Nuwabiine replaces CP Moses Kafeero, according to Kayima.
