Kampala Metropolitan Police is holding 329 people in various police stations around Kampala for violating covid-19 prevention guidelines.
The arrested, according to the Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, were found merry making in bars which is against the Standard Operating Procedures and curfew guidelines as regards the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
A report issued by Police over the weekend indicates that at Katwe Police Station, there are about 147 people who were found in various bars like Happy Boyz Namasuba, New Best Hotel Nateete among many others.
Owoyesigire said that the suspects are held on allegations of engaging in a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease contrary to section 171 of the Penal Code Act and will appear in court today Monday December 28, 2020.
Meanwhile, Kira Division also held operations in different areas of their responsibility and arrested 182 people.
These were also found flouting Covid-19 prevention guidelines set by the Ministry of Health.
“We warn bar owners that operations to enforce guidelines against the spread of Coronavirus are on and those found operating bars in contravention of the fight against COVID-19 will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” Owoyesigire said.
