Kampala: Boda Boda Rider Knocks Dead Policeman for Stopping Him Past Curfew

Jinja Road Police Station in Kampala is investigating the murder of one of their officers No. 50415 Police Constable, Okwera Opobo Jacob, 34.

It is alleged that on Sunday 22/11/2020 at about 11 pm PC Opobo tried to stop a rider on Bajaj boxer UEG 347/B, who was reportedly carrying two passengers and riding past curfew time along the Jinja road check point opposite the Police station.

However, the rider intentionally knocked the officer down leaving him with serious injuries.

The officer was rushed to Naguru China Hospital and where he has succumbed to the sustained injuries.

According to the deputy KMP spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the two passengers that were being carried by the rider were also taken to Mulago hospital and are out of danger.

Meanwhile, the rider identified as John Byamukama was arrested and he is custody at Jinja Road Police Station on allegations of murder.

“The body of the deceased officer has been conveyed to KCCA Mortuary at Mulago for a post mortem and preparations to have him get a dignified burial are underway,” Owoyesigire said in a statement.

Police have said that they have taken note of the indiscipline by motorists whenever they reach police manned check points and that in many circumstances, officers have been run over and they sustain injuries or get killed.
