Police in Mbarara has in detention three men suspected to be kidnappers, all hailing from the capital Kampala.
The trio was nabbed, after what police said was a failed attempt to kidnap a 29 year old man in Mbarara.
The suspects were identified as 60 year old William Kikukula from Bakuli, Naboth Musinguzi, 58, from Nansana who was disguising as a catholic priest, and 30 year old Bonny Omara a special hire driver from Mbuya in Kampala.
These are said to have tried to kidnap one Moses Namara, a resident of Rwentondo cell in Kakoba division, Mbarara Municipality.
According to Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, Namara, a fuel pump attendant was grabbed by the suspects and tied up on Wednesday at around 11:00am.
Luckily Namara says he managed to free himself and escape from his captors, before alerting the police who swung into action and arrested them.
Kasasira says the suspects were arrested near Mbarara regional referral hospital on Wednesday as they travelled back to Kampala after their failed mission.
“The vehicle they were travelling in was intercepted as they approached Mbarara regional referral hospital,” Kasasira said.
The police mouthpiece also revealed that the suspects were four in number but one is still at large.
Kasasira said the suspects are detained at Mbarara CPS and their car number UAX 353A impounded as well.
