Kampala Metropolitan Police has this afternoon arrested 15 people for drinking during day time and violating the Ministry of Health guidelines on the prevention of the spread of Covid-19.
The suspects were arrested in an intelligence led operation at Friends Bar, a popular drinking joint located in Nakasero in Central Division Kampala.
In a statement, KMP deputy spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango said that they were arrested for violating the Ministry of Health guidelines put in place to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
“Police have raided Friends Bar in Nakasero, Central Division Kampala and arrested 15 people who were drinking alcohol during day time without observing social distancing,” reads part of the statement.
He said that the suspects were more than 15 but others evaded arrest as they fled the scene.
The arrested suspects are detained at CPS Kampala on charges of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease.
Police have vowed to continue cracking down on the law breakers especially those that violate the Covid-19 guidelines that were set by the Ministry of Health.
On Sunday, Kira Police Division conducted a similar operation at La-Venti, a popular hangout spot in Najjera where at least 22 suspects were arrested and detained.
