Rwandan President Paul Kagame has appointed senior army officers to key positions, filling the vacant position of Airforce Chief of Staff with Maj Gen Emmanuel Bayingana.
Bayingana was recently named the Chief Executive Officer of Zigama Credit and Savings Society (CSS), replacing Albert Murasira, whom President Kagame appointed Minister for Defence.
Bayingana now takes over the Airforce docket which has been vacant since Maj Gen Andrew Karamba was sent to Tanzania as Rwanda’s Ambassador.
Bayingana previously served as the Vice Chairman of the National Itorero Commission.
In today’s military deployments announced by RDF, Kagame appointed Brig Gen Vincent Nyakarundi as head of Defence Intelligence.
He replaced Col Andrew Nyamvumba who will head the Defence Research and Development docket.
Nyarakundi has been serving as Rwanda’s Defence attaché to United States.
He previously worked as Defence attaché to Canada where he was accused of espionage by opposition groups.
Kagame has in recent months reshuffled his top army officers amid growing regional security tensions.
The young turks are tactfully being deployed in sensitive departments especially intelligence, Republican Guard and Specialised military units.
The army has equally retired large numbers of aged army officers to pave way for youthful soldiers to run the show.
