The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has welcomed a resolution to make her a sole candidate in the Kamuli women parliamentary election in 2021.
Kadaga was on Saturday outstandingly greeted by a resolution approved by all the four sub counties in Kamuli district, a town council and the four special interest leagues.
The Chairpersons of Kitayunjwa sub county, Bulopa, Butansi and Namwenda sub counties joined by the chairperson’s women, youth, elders and people with disabilities leagues endorsed Kadaga as 2021 sole candidate for Kamuli woman MP.
The Speaker in a brief statement on Monday described the development as a vote of confidence from the community.
“Over the weekend while at the thanksgiving ceremony of Hon. Kibalya Henry Maurice at Bugabula South in Kamuli, I was gladly surprised with the vote of confidence the community gave me. This was in form a communiqué signed by chairpersons of all the sub counties in Kamuli District,” said Kadaga.
She honoured the resolution and promised to continue serving the people of Kamuli as their women representative.
“I appreciate the gesture of the people of Kamuli and I give assurances of my service to you,” said Kadaga.
In the last 2016 general elections Kadaga overwhelmingly won the Kamuli woman MP seat when she trounced her rival Deborah Mwesigwa Mugerwa with over 60,000 votes.
Kadaga who stood on National Resistance Movement ticket, the party she also serves as the National Female Vice Chairperson, polled 90,853 votes followed by Mugerwa, an independent with 24,073 votes.
Mrs. Mugerwa later filed a petition against Kadaga’s victory at Jinja High Court but she voluntarily withdrew the petition before the hearing.
