Kadaga Praised for Defending MPs Funeral Allowance

Parliament has Friday paid tribute to one of their own Annie Logiel, order the Moroto Woman MP who passed on last week in Denmark due to Brain Tumor.

The motion was moved by the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda in a special sitting and was seconded by among others the Leader of Opposition  (LOP) Winnie Kiiza.

During the tribute, more about the Speaker of Parliament, approved Rebecca Kadaga was commended for her foresight and firmness in defending the Sh67Million budget allocation to cater for the burial expenses of members.

Kadaga was praised for her stand despite public and civil society criticism.

The speaker was first appreciated by Pian County MP, Remigio Achia who wondered how they would have met the burial expenses without help from parliament.

“I want to thank you for the foresight, to budget for such events. You can imagine how we would we have transported Annie from abroad to Entebbe and meeting other expenses since the day she passed on?,” he said.

This was also backed by government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa, “At the time when we were discussing the budget proposals of the Parliamentary Commission, and we put the proposal to cater for the departed Mps, you remember what appeared in the papers. The people were talking about rice, soda, meat. It was as if parliament was extravagant,” Nankabirwa said.

“We want to thank you for your leadership, stamina to make sure that this institution is allowed to budget and prepare for the leaders of this country. I want to call upon everybody to stand with this institution. Government is in support because we never questioned this budget.”


Logiel was appreciated for her contributions in up lifting the standards of living of the Karamajong people and her fight to ensure that the health standards in the country are improved.
